The bank responded to an information request under the Right to Information Act (RTI Act) and stated that revenue from ATM transaction fees was Rs 645.67 Crore in the financial year 2021-22.
According to Chandrashekhar Gaur, Madhya Pradesh's RTI applicant, the penalty imposed on customers who fail to maintain minimum balances or a quarterly/monthly average bank account balance, was Rs 239.09 crore.
The bank earned Rs 170 crore in 2020-21 by charging customers fees for maintaining a minimum balance.
This amount was taken from accounts totalling 8,518,953 during FY22. PNB (Punjab National Bank), in response to a question about the number of zero balance accounts at the bank, stated that there were 67,637.918 such accounts as per March 31, 2022.
The trend over the past four years, from 2018-19 to 2020-22, revealed that PNB's zero balance accounts have increased steadily in recent years.
There were 28203,379 zero balance accounts in PNB as of March 31, 2019. This number increased to 30,583,184 at the end March 2020, and further to 59.496,731 by March 31, 2021.
